Alex Barfield has worked for over a decade representing management in all areas of labor and employment litigation and counseling. Prior to joining Stanton Law in 2016, Alex was a labor & employment partner at Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young, LLP, and he has significant experience defending claims under Title VII, Section 1981, Section 1983, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Alex’s practice includes litigation related to employment contracts and the Fair Credit Reporting Act, as well as FLSA collective actions at the pre-certification and de-certification stage. He is well versed in restrictive covenant/non-compete law in numerous states and licensed to practice law in both Georgia and California.

Alex’s employment defense strategy involves positioning cases so that they can be resolved via dispositive motions. He has won dozens of motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment for various employers and corporate clients in state and federal court. In addition, Alex has experience litigating cases at the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, and he has presented oral argument before the Eleventh Circuit regarding employment cases on three occasions.

An experienced litigator, Alex has handled every aspect of employment litigation from the initial filing of an administrative charge through the state and federal appeals process. His trial experience includes a sexual harassment trial in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia that resulted in a favorable verdict for the employer; a sexual harassment trial in California Superior Court that resulted in a defense verdict; a commercial litigation bench trial in Gwinnett County Superior Court where he obtained a verdict in favor of the client; two representation hearings before the NLRB resulting in favorable outcomes for the employer; and numerous commercial arbitrations and administrative hearings.

Alex attended college at the University of Pennsylvania, and law school at the University of Georgia, where he obtained a J.D./MBA degree from the Law School and the Terry College of Business. While at Georgia, Alex served on the William Daniel Mock Trial Team and the Georgia Journal of International & Comparative Law; and interned with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s litigation division.

Alex lives in Norcross with his wife, Kasi Whitaker, a worker’s compensation defense attorney with Savell & Williams, and their two children. They are members of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Buckhead and avid Georgia Bulldog fans.
